Romans 5:20,21
"Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
This passage is so powerful and I have been meditating on it for the last few days. It definitely has been one of my favorites, but I believe there is so much more in this passage for the whole church right now in this day and age, than we are aware of.
The law is finished with - which is anything that we do in our own self righteous way for God, because when we do things own our way, we are actually not fully believing and trusting God's way or that He is in control and has the very best for us.
Sin in the new covenant is unbelief in the finished work of the cross which is wrapped in His absolute love and desire for us, His bride. So before Jesus was the law, which produced sin which then leads to death. The law manifests how unrighteous we really are, how no one can keep the perfect law - apart from Jesus.
All ours sins are now gone, they were all put on Jesus at the cross, so we don't have to continually ask for forgiveness. We just have to receive the gift of His righteousness and abundance of grace! To keep believing that He has completed His work - there is now nothing we need to do to earn righteousness. The works that are done through us are actually God's works through His grace - it's all about Him.
So where sin reigns, which is unbelief in the finished work of the cross, grace reigns so much more through Jesus' righteousness. Where there is chaos, destruction, death, doubt, fear in the world or in your life - His grace is so much more powerful to override it and we already have His righteousness covering us - how amazing!!! His grace is HUGE! It's His love, favour, blessings, peace, joy, power, devotion, all that is from His Spirit. This is what now reigns - HE NOW REIGNS!! It is also saying in this passage "to eternal life", which means we have all this on this earth right now. On the way to eternity, we have the opportunity to have the abundance of His grace reigning over every situation in our life now - grace most certainly does abound!!
